Recreational, Therapeutic & Social Activities Among Peers:

A variety of recreational and social events are scheduled daily. For example: coffee and conversation; newspaper reading, crafting, sewing and current events discussion; birthday celebrations; music and entertainment; speakers from the community; large and small group games; reasoning games; crafts and activities adapted to compensate for physical and mental deficits; structured exercises under consultation with a physical therapist.

Nutritionally Balanced Noon Meal and Morning and Afternoon Snacks:

Meals are purchased from our cafeteria, all meals are prepared in kitchens licensed by the State of MN; portions and menus meet all standards set by the State and Federal Government.

Medical, Nursing, Rehabilitation

and Social Work Services:

Individual assessments and evaluations and skilled care provided by the center either with medical staff, or appropriate referral to community resources.  Medical appointments can be arranged with private physicians, clinics and hospitals.  Arrangements can also be made to have the participant seen by various specialists at the center.

Respite:

The center provides services on a flexible schedule so that many different needs for caregiver relief can be accommodated.  Some participants attend daily or several days a week to allow employment opportunities for primary caregivers; others attend for (a few hours) (occasional) full days so that caregivers can attend activities of their choice during the day.

HEALTH SERVICES

A registered nurse provides monthly consultation and reviews the center’s health services.  Health services include:

  1. Monitoring participant’s health status and reporting changes to the caregiver, physician, and center director;
  2. Education and counseling participants on good health practices;
  3. Maintaining a list of professional health resources available for referrals as needed by participants;
  4. Developing policies and monitoring procedures for participant self-administration of medication and for training unlicensed personnel who provide medication assistance; and
  5. Supervising staff distribution of medication and assistance with participant self-administration of medication and ensuring compliance with part 9555.9680, subpart 2, item c.

Transportation:

The center does arrange transportation to and from the center.  Service is available from community-based transporters; also caregivers; families; volunteers and cabs.  Vans with hydraulic lifts to accommodate wheelchairs are available within the service area.

Community Information and Referral:

Specific needs and concerns of the participant can be addressed by referral to appropriate community resources; assistance with financial, legal, housing or personal problems can be obtained with assistance from the center staff.  Many participant needs are met by early awareness and staff assistance and referral to local service providers.
